Italian Espresso Champion 2026: Matteo Colzani wins national title with Gran Aroma

Espresso Italiano Champion 2026: Matteo Colzani conquista il titolo nazionale con Gran Aroma
ProfessionistiJun 19, 20262 min read

For Caffé Milani, June 18, 2026, is a date to remember. Matteo Colzani, born in 1989 from Seregno, conquers and wins the national final of the competition promoted by the Italian Espresso Institute in Faenza.

After passing the selections hosted at Caffé Milani's headquarters in Lipomo last May, Matteo won the title of Espresso Italiano Champion 2026 at the Mokador Experience Academy, where he excelled in preparing authentic Italian espresso and cappuccino.

A result that makes us particularly proud: Matteo competed with Caffé Milani and was able to convey the philosophy and quality in which we have always invested.

From the Lipomo selection to the national title

Already on May 19, we had the pleasure of testing his skill during the Caffè Milani selection, aimed at choosing our candidate for Espresso Italiano Champion.

Among all the competitors, Matteo stood out for his precision, technical competence, and ability to interpret Italian espresso with confidence and personality, earning the right to represent Caffé Milani in the national semifinals and finals.

From that moment, the journey continued to Faenza, where the all-Italian competition took place on June 17 and 18. Here Matteo achieved the best overall result, winning the national title and access to the international final that will be held in November at Lavazza's Factory 1895 in Turin.

A professional we know well

Over the years, Matteo deepened his training to become an AICAF coffee master and IIAC certified taster, turning a passion into a profession. Today, he is also a lecturer at Altascuola Coffee Training, Caffé Milani and Altogusto's training project dedicated to industry professionals.

The choice of Gran Aroma

For the national final of the Italian Espresso Institute's barista championship, Matteo chose Caffé Milani Gran Aroma, one of the most representative blends of our professional offering.

With a blend that best enhances the sensory profile in the cup thanks to its characteristic notes of dried fruit, honey, malt, and toasted bread, the victory in Faenza once again confirms how the final result comes from the encounter between a quality blend and the ability of those who interpret it with competence and sensitivity.

Next stop: the international final

Winning the title of best barista in Italy is an important achievement and opens the doors to a new challenge. In November, Matteo will represent Caffé Milani in the international final of Espresso Italiano Champion, competing with the best professionals from all over the world.

From all of us at Caffé Milani, we extend our renewed congratulations for this extraordinary result and our sincerest best wishes for the next chapter of this adventure. See you in Turin!
