Papua Nuova Guinea: in viaggio tra foreste di caffè e profumi tropicali
Storie di caffèJun 5, 20234 min read

In the Pacific Ocean, Papua New Guinea, one of its most beautiful pearls, shines. Also known as Papua, it is a destination blessed with a wealth of natural beauty. With breathtaking beaches and coastlines, expanses of lush vegetation, and volcanic islands, it is ideal for those who love life in contact with nature. Furthermore, to make your trip a true discovery, you will find plenty of exciting experiences, such as snorkeling in the coral reef, diving, surfing, trekking along the trails of the highest mountains, and a pleasant stroll among the coffee plants in the heart of the rainforest. It is here that the pleasure of good coffee becomes a passion for connoisseurs.
Discover Papua New Guinea through all its wonders.

Papua New Guinea: the travel itinerary

With approximately 30 hours of flight time and two stopovers, crossing Europe and Asia, you reach Oceania, arriving in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. Here, you'll find a warm welcome and comfortable amenities—a perfect base for a nature-filled journey through intoxicating places like the coffee plantations of Simbu Province and the Western and Eastern Highlands. Representing the richness of the fruits of this equatorial paradise is Caffè Milani's Papua Estate Plantation, delicate and full-bodied, with a fruity aroma that makes it perfect for a sweet morning awakening.

What to see in Papua New Guinea

Here are some of the unmissable stops that will make your tour truly unforgettable.

Port Moresby
In Fairfax Bay, located in the southern part of Papua, lies the capital, with its port and some of the most beautiful places to enjoy the atmosphere of this land. Among the precious treasures, we recommend: Idler's Beach, located east of the city center; Sinasi Reef, popular with surfers; Daugo Island with its beaches covered in fine, white sand; Varirata National Park, a protected area with scenic trails and the spectacular Rouna Falls. Also not to be missed is the National Museum and Art Gallery of Papua New Guinea, where you can learn more about the history, culture, and traditions of this country through the many archaeological finds and natural science collections.

Madang Island and Mount Wilhelm
Easily accessible from Port Moresby, it's the ideal place for mountain and climbing enthusiasts. Just a few kilometers away stands Mount Wilhelm, 4,509 meters high, an enchanting destination where you can admire waterfalls and stands of trees that are truly unique. Furthermore, the Madang area is also known as a paradise of tropical parks and beaches, where the coral reef and other volcanic islands surrounding it make the surrounding landscape even more unique and evocative. Among the must-see stops is the Kalibobo Lighthouse, a 27-meter-tall octagonal tower built to commemorate the coast guards, which emits a white flash every 15 seconds, visible from across the bay.

New Britain Island and Mount Tavurvur
On New Britain Island—the largest in Papua—is Tavurvur, the active volcano that emerged within the Rabaul caldera. Before venturing to explore this mountain, you can admire the beach dotted with hot springs that will captivate you with their intense sulfurous scent. Then, climbing the mountain and pushing ever higher, you'll reach some of the most beautiful vantage points with breathtaking views across the entire bay.

Tourists in Papua New Guinea: What to Know for an Informed Travel Plan

Before leaving for Papua New Guinea, it's important to know the best time to enjoy your trip. Given the equatorial climate—humid, hot, and rainy—with temperatures around 30°C (86°F), it's best to visit the country during the driest months. For this reason, we recommend June to September, avoiding November to May, when major cyclones are more likely to hit.
Once you arrive in this corner of paradise, you can fully enjoy your holiday, including sampling the local cuisine, rich in fish, tropical fruit, and coffee.

What to eat during your trip to Papua New Guinea
If you're a seafood lover, you'll certainly enjoy it seasoned with special sauces—even spicy ones—accompanied by vegetables, including root vegetables, pumpkin, and kau kau (orange-fleshed sweet potato), as well as local fruits. Among the star dishes is the Kokoda, with fish flavored with a lime and coconut sauce. If you enjoy meat as well as seafood, you can try the Mumu, with pork—preferably pancetta—accompanied by exotic condiments.

For a sweet journey even just with the mind

To make this short journey through the beauties and flavours of this land even more special, there is the coffee from the island of Papua, 100% Arabica, certainly one of the protagonists of the Puro line by Caffè Milani, available in various formats from coffee ground , to the one in grains , and that in capsules .

While you wait to plan this fantastic trip, the best sensory experience you can have, to experience a little of the magic of this corner of earthly paradise, is to taste this single-origin at home.
